Spring is the time of Cherry Blossom. To be more exact, it is the time when the members of the Rosaceae family bloom, including the famous cherry, but also almonds, apples, plums, apricots and many others, often being confused to be cherries and being thrown into the party. And when there is a party, one wouldn’t want to stay home! Spring is a fantastic time to visit northern and north-east Asia to enjoy the much-admired blossom, and the very convenient weather. Of all the Cherry Blossom country’s Japan is the best known, but not necessarily the one featuring the most blossoming trees. Try Taiwan (early in the season), Korea and China for some great Sakura images. The northern parts of South-East Asia are still rather convenient to travel through, but the southern parts, mainly around the Mekong Delta can be scorching hot, and best be avoided. At the foot of the Himalayas, the Bhutanese are getting ready for the spring traditional mask dances celebrated throughout the country, while enjoying the beautiful carpets of blooming Rhododendron, and in Nepal the Sherpas once again packing up as another trekking season is brewing. A surprising destination for the season is Siberia, where temperatures are gradually rising, but the frozen winter roads are still intact, allowing smoother rides through the usually pretty rough tundra. One place you really don’t want to be at during spring- Mongolia! The cold winter temperatures together with typical spring winds make the spring an absolutely unbearable time to travel through the country.
